Chairs Rodgers and Griffith Announce Oversight Hearing on U.S. Center for SafeSportEnergy & Commerce Committee

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chair Morgan Griffith have announced an upcoming hearing focused on evaluating safety measures to protect athletes at all levels. The hearing, titled "Timeout: Evaluating Safety Measures Implemented to Protect Athletes," aims to address challenges in implementing safety measures provided by the SafeSport program.

In a joint statement, Chairs Rodgers and Griffith emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of athletes, stating, “We must ensure athletes in our communities are healthy and safe from emotional, physical, and sexual abuse.”

The hearing will feature key witnesses including Ms. Ju’Riese Colón, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, and representatives from prominent organizations such as the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, USA Softball, Inc., and the U.S. Soccer Federation.

Scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 10:30 AM ET in the 2322 Rayburn House Office Building, the hearing will provide an opportunity for Members to discuss oversight of SafeSport’s ability to protect athletes, from youth sports to the Olympics. The event will be open to the public and press, and will also be live streamed online.
